A Difficult Childhood
There are individuals in this world who are just simply different to the rest of humanity.
Some of us weren't born into gentle sweet childhoods... and this produces a deep hunger...
When a particular soul encounters the writings of White Mountain War, they feel the magnetic pull to the words written, that captivates the intense emotions they feel inside.
The words stir something within, resonate with their inner longing, and ignite the dormant fire within their spirit.
It's a feeling that's hard to explain.
It's a feeling that defies all boundaries of language and description.
Perhaps a difficult childhood gives way for hunger to rise above the struggles or demons from the past.
Perhaps its revenge. Perhaps its against addiction. Perhaps its payback from the scars of childhood bullying or a drive to meet the expectations set by our fathers or the pain caused by the sins of our father.
In this quest, we look for something more profound, greater than ourselves.
*
I understand the icy anger you feel. I know the thoughts of revenge that surge within you. I know you want to prove yourself to the world. I know when motivational thoughts come, they fill you will inspiration. Other days, you feel rage and they torment your soul. You wonder when will you make it, when will your time come. You wish for life to go your own way.
But remember this...whilst negative motivation produces a greater inspiration, feelings of inadequacies of oneself will only strengthen the awareness of self. And the self gets in the way...
This is why emotional turmoil used for motivation doesn't always lead to great outcomes. Instead, it leads to chasing and unhealthy comparisons. Living this way, hopes for the future will become a habit. We never live for today. We live for tomorrow.
Our days on this planet is numbered. What good is it to live for tomorrow when tomorrow may never arrive. And even if you achieve all you desire, the gratification will wear off just as quick.
You'll be surprised by how hollow success is.
But totally abandoning our original source of motivation sits unwell with those with such fiery ambition. The hunger they feel to prove themselves is too deep. Than perhaps, its better to be equipped with wisdom that recognizes which emotion motivates us and what emotions makes us suffer. We welcome the hunger that propels us to take action, yet within us, there is also a space that distances the emotions of chasing and inadequacy. Within this space lies an emotional intelligence, capable of recognizing what fuels us and what interferes.
In understanding the nature of ambition and ourselves, we begin to live in a space of Mushin. A space of no-mind.
